When I was a kid, you basically had three choices: something homemade, something from the costume aisle that was 90% plastic, or whatever your mom could pull together five minutes before trick-or-treating.

For the kid who wants to arrive breathing fire. 🐉
Okay, this one is NOT subtle.
It's a full dragon costume with wings, a tail and a mask, and honestly, that's exactly why I like it.
It's imaginative, dramatic and guaranteed to make a kid feel like they're actually transforming into something rather than simply putting on a costume.
It's around $55, so it's one of the pricier choices on our list—but the reviews are strong, with nearly 1,000.

4. The Black Cat
Because some Halloween costumes never get old. 🐈⬛
The black cat is one of those costumes that somehow works every single year.
It's cute. It's classic. And unlike some Halloween costumes, you don't have to explain what the child is supposed to be.
At around $33 and with more than 700 reviews, this one caught my attention as a simple option that still feels very Halloween.

And really, what says Halloween better than a little witch running around the neighbourhood collecting candy?

Not every child wants to be scary.

The reviews aren't nearly as numerous as some of our other finds, but that's exactly why I wanted to include it.
Not everything has to be a top seller to be worth a look.

Because apparently being a dinosaur wasn't dramatic enough. 🦖
We've now entered the ridiculous portion of the list.
This inflatable dinosaur costume is exactly what it sounds like: a child riding around inside a giant dinosaur.
At roughly $43, it's not the cheapest costume we've found, but I have a feeling the entertainment value alone makes up for it.

9. The Shark
For the kid who wants to eat the neighbourhood. 🦈
Okay.
This one made me laugh.
It's a full shark jumpsuit, complete with a giant shark head, fins and tail.

And here's the impressive part: more than 2,200 reviews and an Amazon's Choice badge.
At around $44, it's not the cheapest costume—but apparently a LOT of kids have already decided that becoming a shark is a very good idea.

10. The Wild Card
For the kid who refuses to be predictable. 😂
And this is where I think every Halloween list needs to end.
Not with another princess.
Not another superhero.
Not another witch.
Something that makes you stop scrolling and think:

Because Halloween is supposed to be fun.
And sometimes the best costume isn't the prettiest one or the scariest one.
It's the one that makes everyone laugh when they see it coming down the sidewalk.
